Minnesota appliance rebate money is gone

On Monday March 1, Minnesota began a cash-for-appliance program and was over Tuesday March 2, reports the Star Tribune.  The Department of Commerce handed out $5 million in rebates to those who traded in their old appliances for energy-efficient appliances including dish washers, refrigerators and laundry appliances.  The rebate offer has also caused a 10,000 person waiting list to be generated because of the high demand.

On Monday morning when the program opened, the phone system and Web site crashed causing many Minnesotans to become frustrated and lose their spots in line for rebates.  By Monday after the site was up and working again, but was slow moving.  This led to much confusion and some people are not yet sure if they will receive the rebate they applied for.

Those who did receive the rebate will have through March to buy new appliances.
